Ambassador Gene Cretz welcomed Microsoft’s Executive Vice President and General Counsel, Brad Smith, along with his team, during a breakfast event in Accra. Their visit highlights the significance of Ghana for the technology giant. Local leaders, including Mayor Vanderpuije, attended the event to acknowledge the impact of American businesses in Ghana.
Microsoft's involvement in Africa is longstanding, with a strong presence in West Africa. The company emphasizes sustainable solutions by integrating local partners and management. "While Brad sits in Redmond at the firm’s global headquarters, Microsoft Ghana is managed by Ghanaians," said Ambassador Cretz.
The ambassador praised Microsoft's support for the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), especially their contribution to establishing a Regional Learning Center in Accra. "They boldly recognize the need to build the capacity of Ghana’s youth today," he added.
During their visit, Smith and his team will engage in projects related to education, technology, and eGovernment. Ambassador Cretz expressed optimism about the outcomes of these initiatives: "I look forward to seeing very positive results come out of this trip."
He concluded by inviting Brad Smith to introduce himself and elaborate on his team's focus in Ghana.
