Chinese Taipei has formally started a dispute with Canada at the World Trade Organization (WTO) regarding Canadian measures on steel and derivative goods. According to Chinese Taipei, these measures do not comply with certain provisions of the WTO's General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) 1994 and the Agreement on Import Licensing Procedures.

The dispute process began with a request for consultations, which is the first step in the WTO’s dispute settlement procedure. This stage allows both parties to discuss the issue and try to resolve it without moving forward to litigation. If no agreement is reached within 60 days, Chinese Taipei can ask for a panel to adjudicate the matter.

Further details about this case can be found in document WT/DS643/1.
