Amazon has announced that PayMe by HSBC, based in Hong Kong, has migrated its entire digital payments platform to Amazon Web Services (AWS) to enhance innovation and operational efficiency.
The collaboration marks a significant step in HSBC's broader digital transformation efforts and highlights Amazon's increasing role in powering the financial technology infrastructure of major institutions. Since its debut in 2017, PayMe has become a key component of Hong Kong's digital economy, facilitating millions of instant peer-to-peer and merchant transactions. By transitioning to AWS, HSBC aims to innovate more rapidly, meet evolving regulatory requirements, and manage substantial transaction volumes. This migration exemplifies an industry trend towards secure, cloud-based financial platforms that offer enhanced speed, scalability, and resilience.
PayMe by HSBC currently serves over 3.2 million users and processes billions of transactions annually. Through AWS infrastructure, it has achieved faster response times, optimized resource utilization, and reduced incident resolution time. AWS now operates more than 240 cloud services across 38 global regions, enabling financial platforms like PayMe to scale dynamically.
According to Statista, Hong Kong's digital payments market is projected to surpass US$125 billion in total transaction value by 2026, with mobile wallets accounting for a significant portion of this growth. The migration of PayMe to AWS positions HSBC to capitalize on this momentum and improve competitiveness within Asia's expanding digital finance ecosystem.
