Amazon has announced the expansion of its AWS Marketplace in India, allowing customers to purchase software and services in Indian Rupees from both local and global providers. This move aims to simplify procurement, tax compliance, and payments.

According to the official AWS press release, this expansion represents a significant milestone in supporting India's rapidly growing digital economy. The marketplace will enable local customers and sellers to transact directly in Indian Rupees (INR), streamlining payment and invoicing processes. AWS said that this initiative aligns with India's cloud adoption growth and addresses the need for efficient, localized procurement solutions.

AWS's announcement highlights that customers in India can now purchase offerings from technology providers such as Cisco, CrowdStrike, Deloitte, eMudhra, Freshworks, Gupshup.ai, IBM, Kore.ai, Palo Alto Networks, Salesforce, and Sonata Software in INR. The release also notes that Indian companies like Swiggy, Observe.AI, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) already utilize AWS Marketplace to streamline procurement processes and enhance cost transparency. According to the Forrester Total Economic Impact of AWS Marketplace study, customers globally experience a 377% return on investment (ROI) and achieve payback within six months when using the platform.

As reported by TechCrunch, AWS executives emphasized that the localized marketplace supports Indian Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), System Integrators, and Consulting Partners by enabling direct sales in INR. This reduces entry barriers and improves compliance. Ruba Borno, AWS’s Vice President of Global Specialists & Partners, said the expansion removes "traditional procurement friction" and helps connect local innovation with enterprise demand. Praveen Sridhar, AWS India and South Asia Head of Partner Business, added that the initiative will help Indian technology providers scale efficiently and accelerate innovation across India's digital economy.
