Demonstrations organized by Ecuadorian civil society groups are ongoing across the country, according to a recent alert from the U.S. Embassy in Ecuador. These protests have resulted in significant disruptions to traffic, public transportation, and shipping logistics in several areas.
The embassy noted that road closures have mainly affected highland regions, with recent incidents reported north of Quito near Otavalo and Ibarra, as well as on the route connecting Guayaquil and Cuenca. The situation remains unpredictable, with demonstrations and blockades often occurring with little warning. In some instances, these gatherings have escalated into violence.
U.S. citizens in Ecuador are advised to remain informed about local developments and consider alternate travel routes when necessary.
