As travel activity slows down, the U.S. Embassy in The Dominican Republic is reminding American citizens to check the validity of their U.S. passports before making international plans. According to embassy officials, travelers should ensure their passport is valid for the entire length of their trip and ideally for at least six months beyond their intended return date.
"Whether you are preparing for a business trip, academic exchange, or family visit abroad, your passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay—and ideally for at least six months beyond your return date," an embassy spokesperson stated.
The embassy emphasized that some countries may deny entry if a traveler's passport is near expiration. Airlines can also refuse boarding if documentation does not meet required standards. "Don’t risk last-minute complications, renew early if your passport’s expiration is approaching," officials advised.
