The U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo has issued a weather alert for the Dominican Republic amid heavy rainfall, which is predicted to cause severe weather conditions. According to the Dominican Republic's Emergency Operations Center (COE), a red alert is in place for Gaspar Hernandez and Sabaneta de Yásica due to anticipated flash and urban flooding, hail, thunderstorms, and strong winds. Other areas are under yellow and green alerts.

U.S. citizens in need of help can contact the embassy at 809-567-7775 or email SDOAmericans@state.gov.

The embassy advises people to avoid floodwaters and seek higher ground. Those trapped in a vehicle in swiftly moving water should stay inside unless safely reaching higher ground is possible. Additionally, staying informed through the National Hurricane Center and contacting local authorities during dangerous conditions is recommended.

The embassy encourages enrollment in the Smart Traveler Program, which provides updates relevant to the Dominican Republic, and suggests keeping travel documents handy and having personal evacuation plans.

Assistance is available at the U.S. Embassy Santo Domingo for emergencies at 809-567-7775. Further information and security updates can be accessed through the embassy's website and social media platforms.
