The U.S. Embassy in Chad recently hosted a special iftar event to honor persons with disabilities. The gathering was led by Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Rick Swart and included individuals with various disabilities such as those who are deaf, blind, and physically impaired. Many of the attendees were Chadians who had previously participated in U.S. Embassy exchange programs.
Religious leaders from different faiths also attended the event, including representatives from the High Islamic Council and the Catholic and Protestant communities.
Chargé d’Affaires Rick Swart remarked on his experiences during Ramadan in Chad: “…This is my second Ramadan in Chad, and the hospitality of the people of Chad is remarkable. The way Chadians open their homes and undertake charitable acts in their communities during Ramadan is inspiring. I have also appreciated the way that iftars in Chad include not only Chadian Muslims but Christians and foreigners alike. And I believe that the Iftar the Embassy organized this year highlights the special coincidence of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and the Christian season of Lent occurring at the same time…”
