Applications are now being accepted for the 2026-27 Fulbright African Research Scholar Program (ARSP). This program offers two types of grants: research grants and program and curriculum development grants.

Research grants provide awards ranging from three to nine months. These are available to African university faculty or professionals from research institutes who wish to conduct research in any academic discipline at a U.S. institution. The research must commence between August 2026 and March 2027. Eligible applicants should possess a doctorate or equivalent terminal degree at the time of application, with postdoctoral research not being supported under this grant. Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of three years of university teaching experience and a strong scholarly record.

Program and curriculum development grants offer awards for three to five months. These are intended for African university faculty or administrators aiming to conduct research in any academic field at a U.S. institution, starting no earlier than August 2026 and no later than March 2027. Proposals should relate directly to professional duties and illustrate how the acquired knowledge will contribute to new courses, curricula, or academic programs at their home institutions. Applicants need not have a doctorate but must hold at least a master’s degree or equivalent graduate qualification.

The ARSP is open to scholars from all disciplines regardless of sex or age; however, proposals involving clinical medical research with patient contact cannot be approved under the Fulbright Program.

Applications opened on March 17, 2025, with the deadline set for April 25, 2025. Interested applicants can apply through the provided link: https://apply.iie.org/fvsp2026
