Today marks one year since the onset of Russia's military actions against Ukraine, which have been described as unprovoked and unjustified. The conflict has seen the Ukrainian people demonstrating remarkable courage and determination in defending their freedom and upholding global democratic values.

The United States, alongside its allies and partners, has committed to ensuring that Ukraine receives the necessary support to defend its people and territory from Russian aggression. The statement highlights that "Russia chose this war," asserting that peace would follow if Russia ceases hostilities and withdraws its forces. It further states, "If Ukraine stops fighting, Ukraine ends," indicating that Russia is viewed as the primary barrier to peace.

A call for an immediate end to the conflict is made, emphasizing a desire for a "just peace" that respects Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. According to the statement, Russia is losing the war and has resorted to extensive bombardments targeting civilian infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, churches, and residences.

Additionally, it is noted that the UN General Assembly has consistently voted to condemn Russia's actions against Ukraine as violations of international norms outlined in the UN Charter.
