U.S. Silica names new Vice President, Chief Accounting Officer and Controller

US Silica recently announced the appointment of Gene Padgett, who is set to join the team in the coming week. According to a press release issued by the company, Padgett has previously held similar roles at Valmont Industries.

Padgett is scheduled to assume his new role on Dec. 18 and will report directly to the company’s interim executive vice president and chief financial officer, as stated in the news release that announced his hiring.
"I am excited to welcome Gene to our leadership team. His extensive accounting and financial expertise will be a key strength for the Company as we continue to advance our growth strategy," Bryan Shinn, CEO of US Silica Holdings, Inc., said.

Before joining US Silica, Padgett served as Senior Vice President of Finance and Chief Accounting Officer at Valmont Industries, Inc. His professional history also includes tenures as Senior Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer at DXP Enterprises and General Manager US and Canada Tax at Spectra Energy for nearly 10.5 years. According to his LinkedIn page, he holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with a focus in Accounting from Prairie View A&M University.

US Silica's roots trace back to the late 1800s when Henry Harrison Hunter mined and processed a sand sample near Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, before establishing a plant for mining and producing silica sand. This information is available on the company’s "About Us" page.
The current form of US Silica came into existence when Pennsylvania Glass Sand Corporation merged with Ottawa Silica Company. In 2008, Golden Gate Capital acquired US Silica which has since expanded through several acquisitions including a Tyler, Texas facility and Sandbox Logistics in 2016, followed by a facility purchase in Millen, Georgia in 2019.

US Silica's subsidiaries include EP Minerals and SandBox Logistics. The company can produce and deliver hundreds of diversified products as per customer requirements. As mentioned in the press release announcing Padgett’s appointment, US Silica is a member of the Russell 200 and supplies commercial silica to the oil and gas industries for various applications.
