A global industrial technology company with headquarters in Attleboro, Massachusetts, has completed its previously announced acquisition of a company engaged in video telematics technology for commercial fleets.

Sensata Technologies’ acquisition of privately-held SmartWitness Holdings Inc., falls in line with “Sensata Insight's strategy to provide high-value data insights to fleet operators,” a press release said. Sensata Technologies is considered a leader in “mission-critical sensors and controls” as it develops sensors and sensor-based “solutions” that include controllers and software.

Founded in 2007, and with headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois, SmartWitness designs and manufactures in-vehicle cameras, recorders and software, the press release said.

“Sensata is proud to announce today (Nov. 29) that it has completed the previously announced acquisition of leading video telematics provider SmartWitness Holdings Inc.,” Sensata’s Facebook page said.

In April, Sensata acquired Xirgo Technologies, a telematics and data insight provider, a press release said.

“SmartWitness expands on Sensata's recent acquisition of Xirgo Technologies by adding leading video hardware, software and analytics services for fleets, with a highly complementary channel strategy leveraging TSP (telematics service providers) relationships as partners in delivering these solutions to market,” Jeff Cote, CEO and president of Sensata Technologies, said in a press release.

Fleets such as commercial trucking, schools and public transit networks, federal and municipal fleets, and military and first responder vehicles use SmartWitness’ “solutions,” the press release said.

“We were born from the heart of an engineer and the soul of a committed partner,” SmartWitness’ website said. “That’s why we are investing aggressively in video telematics innovation and are the only major video telematics company that never competes with its channel partners.”

Sensata has over 19,000 employees and operations in 13 countries, its website said.

“For more than 100 years, Sensata has provided a wide range of customized, sensor-rich solutions that address complex engineering requirements to help customers solve difficult challenges in the automotive, heavy vehicle and off-road, industrial and aerospace industries,” its website said.
