Ambassador Richard M. Mills Jr. welcomed guests and participants at the Made in America, Loved in Nigeria Video Contest Award Ceremony on December 18, 2025. In his prepared remarks, Mills highlighted the collaborative spirit of the event and praised the creativity displayed by contestants.
"This contest is more than a showcase of American products and brands. It is a celebration of the enduring partnership between the United States and Nigeria — a partnership built on commerce, mutual respect, and a commitment to progress," said Mills.
He noted that strengthening trade, investment, and business relations between the two countries remains a key priority for the U.S. Mission in Nigeria. Mills referenced a recent agreement signed between the U.S. Department of Commerce and Nigeria’s Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment—a five-year memorandum of understanding focusing on agriculture, digital economy, and infrastructure. He stated that only five African nations have such an agreement with the United States.
Mills also pointed out that over 100 large American companies are currently operating in Nigeria across various sectors such as manufacturing, energy, consumer goods, pharmaceuticals, and technology. He emphasized that both large corporations and small- to medium-sized enterprises are contributing to economic growth for Americans and Nigerians alike.
Through their video entries, participants demonstrated how American products and technologies are integrated into everyday life in Nigeria. Some submissions showed how these innovations empower Nigerian creatives by providing access to new skills and global audiences; others highlighted reliability in supporting businesses throughout the country.
"Your stories not only illustrate the quality and impact of American-made goods and innovations, but also the strong connections that link our two nations—not just in trade, but in creativity, ambition, and the pursuit of opportunity," Mills said.
He concluded by stating: "Commerce between the United States and Nigeria is about more than goods and services. It is about people—entrepreneurs, students, families, and communities—working together to build a brighter future. It is about the exchange of ideas that inspire innovation and fuel shared prosperity."
Mills thanked all participants for their contributions to this year’s contest.
