Leah Francis Campos has been confirmed as the U.S. Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, following her nomination by President Donald J. Trump and approval by the United States Senate on October 7, 2025.
In a statement regarding her new role, Ambassador Campos emphasized her priorities: "Ambassador Campos is committed to deepening the relationship between the United States and the Dominican Republic, while prioritizing the vital national interests of the United States – in pursuit of peace, prosperity, regional stability, and security."
Before her appointment as ambassador, Campos was Senior Strategic Adviser at SAS, a U.S.-based multinational company specializing in data analytics and artificial intelligence. Between 2013 and 2019, she worked as Senior Advisor on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. In this position, she advised Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) on issues related to Latin America and the Caribbean. She also served as Staff Director of the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere from 2013 to 2015.
Campos previously ran for Congress in Arizona's 9th Congressional District in 2012. Earlier in her career, she worked for the Central Intelligence Agency.
Ambassador Campos holds an MA in Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh and a BS in Political Science from Arizona State University. She is proficient in Spanish and has four children: Christian Francis, Isabela Rose, Maria Soledad, and Xavier Santiago.
