U.S. citizens in Cyprus have been advised to exercise increased caution due to the anniversary of the October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks in Israel. The U.S. Embassy in Nicosia issued a security alert on October 6, 2025, urging Americans to remain vigilant and take personal security measures.

"Due to the anniversary of the October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks in Israel and out of an abundance of caution, U.S. citizens are advised to remain vigilant, maintain heightened situational awareness, and practice good personal security measures," the embassy stated.

The embassy emphasized that it will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as necessary.

Recommended actions for U.S. citizens include being aware of their surroundings, avoiding demonstrations and protests, monitoring local media, and following instructions from local authorities.

The embassy also encouraged Americans to enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), which provides security updates and helps the embassy contact travelers during emergencies.
