The U.S. Embassy in Bogota has announced it will close early on October 7, 2025, due to anticipated large-scale protests and transportation disruptions in the city. The embassy will operate with reduced staffing and suspend routine consular services after noon.
According to the announcement, demonstrations are expected near the embassy and may continue into the evening. U.S. citizens in Bogota are advised to avoid large gatherings because of the risk that protests could become violent.
"U.S. Embassy Bogota will continue to monitor protest activity and provide updates if necessary," stated embassy officials.
The embassy also provided safety recommendations for Americans in the area: "Avoid crowds and protests. Be aware of your surroundings. Wear little to no jewelry and carry few valuables. Keep a low profile. Avoid using your cell phone in public. Do not physically resist any robbery attempt. Keep car doors locked, and windows rolled up. Monitor local news media for updates."
