U.S. citizens in Belgium have been advised by the U.S. Embassy in Brussels to remain alert due to the anniversary of the October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks in Israel. The embassy issued a security alert on October 6, 2025, urging Americans to exercise caution and practice personal security measures.
The embassy stated, "Due to the anniversary of the October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks in Israel and out of an abundance of caution, U.S. citizens are advised to remain vigilant, maintain heightened situational awareness, and practice good personal security measures."
Officials said they will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as needed. The guidance includes being aware of surroundings, avoiding demonstrations or protests, monitoring local media for updates, following instructions from local authorities, and enrolling in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). According to the embassy: "STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates and makes it easier for the U.S. Embassy to contact you in an emergency."
The U.S. Embassy is located at 27 Boulevard du Regent/Regentlaan in Brussels and can be reached at +32-2-811-4000 during business hours or after hours for emergencies.
