Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced on its website that 18% of businesses in Vietnam have adopted artificial intelligence (AI), with most utilizing it for basic applications. The research also found that 35% of startups and 11% of large enterprises are developing new AI-driven products.

According to AWS's official press release, the company partnered with Strand Partners to conduct the "Unlocking Vietnam’s AI Potential" survey, which included 1,000 business leaders and 1,000 members of the Vietnamese public. The research emphasized that while AI adoption is spreading quickly, most businesses remain in the early stages of using AI primarily for efficiency gains instead of creating new products. VietnamNet also reported that the findings show an opportunity for the country to combine startup agility with enterprise resources to accelerate more advanced AI applications and strengthen its digital economy.

As reported by AWS, AI adoption in Vietnam has reached 18%, or about 170,000 businesses, up from 13% the previous year, representing a 39% year-over-year growth rate. The report highlighted that in 2024 alone, around 47,000 businesses implemented AI solutions—equivalent to more than five businesses every hour. Importantly, 61% of those businesses reported an average 16% revenue increase, while 58% cited expected cost savings averaging 20%, underscoring the technology’s economic potential.

According to AWS, most companies remain in the basic adoption stage, with 74% using AI mainly for process automation and efficiency rather than innovation. Only 17% have reached an intermediate level of adoption, and just 9% have fully integrated AI as a transformative part of their products, business models, or decision-making processes. The press release explained that this uneven maturity could result in a "two-tier" AI economy where companies that innovate more aggressively pull ahead of slower adopters.

The report also found significant differences between startups and large enterprises in their use of AI. According to AWS, 55% of startups in Vietnam are adopting AI, and of these, 35% are creating entirely new AI-driven products. In contrast, only 41% of large enterprises use AI at all, and just 11% are developing new AI products while only 12% have a comprehensive AI strategy. This highlights a gap in innovation capacity between younger firms and established corporations.

According to AWS’s official About page, Amazon Web Services is Amazon.com’s cloud computing division offering infrastructure, AI, and platform services to millions worldwide. The company has invested heavily in Vietnam’s digital ecosystem by launching Edge locations in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and training more than 100,000 individuals in cloud and AI skills since 2017. AWS also launched its "AI Ready" initiative in 2023 providing free courses—including those on generative AI—to expand the country’s talent pool and workforce readiness.
