Amazon Web Services (AWS) and HERE Technologies have announced the launch of SDV Accelerator, a platform designed to assist automakers in expediting the development of software-defined vehicles (SDVs). This initiative combines AWS cloud services, HERE location technology, and partner solutions.
Software-defined vehicles are increasingly seen as pivotal to the future of the automotive industry. According to McKinsey & Company, these vehicles allow for continuous updates via software, which can include enhancements in autonomous driving and personalized entertainment options without necessitating hardware redesigns. The consultancy estimates that revenues from automotive software and electronics could grow from $238 billion in 2020 to $469 billion by 2030, with SDVs playing a significant role in this expansion.
The automotive industry faces challenges with fragmented development processes and traditional supply chains that hinder innovation. Automotive News reports that AWS and HERE's SDV Accelerator aims to address these issues by offering pre-vetted software solutions from Independent Software Vendors within AWS Marketplace. This approach simplifies the integration of cloud-native tools, enabling automakers to streamline discovery processes, reduce integration costs, and concentrate on creating unique consumer experiences.
Mapping and simulation tools are crucial for advancing SDV development. HERE Technologies states that the SDV Accelerator incorporates its Navigation SDK and SceneXtract—a simulation tool developed jointly with AWS—to enable automakers to virtually test driver assistance systems and navigation interfaces. These tools help minimize reliance on expensive physical prototypes by allowing automakers to create numerous driving scenarios digitally, thereby accelerating the validation of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features.
