Representatives from the Regional Federal Benefits Office will visit Panama to provide services related to U.S. Social Security benefits. The U.S. Embassy in Panama announced that these representatives will be available at two locations for individuals who are beneficiaries or have questions about Social Security.

Services will be offered at the U.S. Embassy Consular Section in Panama City from Monday, September 15, through Wednesday, September 17, between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., and again from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. On Thursday, September 18, services will be available from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Additionally, on Friday, September 19, representatives will be at Biblioteca Boquete on Ave. Belisario Porras in Bajo Boquete from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

No appointments are required for these sessions; services will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Individuals applying for Social Security benefits should bring both original documents and copies for each applicant, including birth certificates and passports. Those seeking auxiliary or survivor’s benefits must also provide marriage certificates and/or spouse’s death certificates.

For those applying for a Social Security Number (SSN) card for applicants under age 12, valid U.S. passport copies and Consular Report of Birth Abroad are needed along with a completed SS-5FS form signed by the applicant or their parent/guardian. Alternatively, an original foreign birth certificate registered before age five can be submitted with the same form.

Applicants over age 12 must attend an in-person interview and present valid U.S. passport copies, an original birth certificate registered before age five or Consular Report of Birth Abroad, and a completed SS-5FS form signed by the applicant. Proof of residence abroad is also required; this can include letters from educational institutions showing enrollment dates, vaccination records, medical records, identification documents or passports (valid or expired), employment letters, marriage or divorce certificates, and children’s birth certificates.
