Large public events are expected to take place in Managua, Nicaragua from November 12 to November 16, 2025. The Christmas Livestock–Vehicle Fair will be held daily on Kilometer 7.5 Masaya Highway across from the Galerías Santo Domingo mall between 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
On November 13, the Nicaraguan national soccer team is scheduled to play Honduras at the National Stadium near Rotunda Universitaria and the American Nicaraguan School. This event is anticipated to affect traffic and activity in the area starting at 5:00 p.m.
Both events are likely to draw large crowds, increase police presence, and cause roadblocks, closures, and traffic disruptions throughout Managua, particularly near event locations.
The U.S. Embassy in Managua has issued guidance for those in the city during this period. "Avoid demonstrations or large gatherings and leave the area immediately if you are unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests," stated embassy officials. They also advised: "Do not participate in demonstrations. Foreigners, including U.S.-Nicaraguan dual nationals, risk arrest or expulsion if they participate in protests. In these cases, the Nicaraguan government may not notify the U.S. Embassy, thereby delaying consular access." Additional recommendations include not attempting to drive through crowds or barricades encountered on streets and ensuring adequate supplies of food and water in case of disruptions.
Travelers are reminded that Nicaragua remains under a Level 3 Travel Advisory due to arbitrary enforcement of laws, limited healthcare resources, and risks of wrongful detention for U.S. nationals by local authorities. The embassy encourages all U.S. citizens to reconsider travel plans to Nicaragua as outlined on its country information page.
