Amazon has announced a $10 billion investment in North Carolina to expand its Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud infrastructure. This expansion aims to support artificial intelligence development, workforce training, and community grants. The announcement was made on Amazon's official news site.

According to Logistics Viewpoints, the company has chosen Richmond County, North Carolina, as the location for a significant AWS data center expansion. This move is intended to bolster cloud computing and artificial intelligence development. The investment will involve building infrastructure to meet the growing demand for AI, with expectations of creating 500 new direct jobs and thousands more through supply chain and construction roles. Amazon cited North Carolina’s strong workforce, business environment, and utility infrastructure as key factors in their decision.

In conjunction with the AWS investment, Amazon announced the creation of the Richmond County Community Fund. According to The Richmond Observer, this fund will begin with $150,000 and offer up to $10,000 per grant to support local projects. Target areas include STEM education, workforce development, sustainability, and community well-being. Eligible applicants include individuals, nonprofits, schools, and community organizations. Applications opened in July 2025 and are being managed by the nonprofit ChangeX.

Amazon has invested over $12 billion in North Carolina since 2010. According to its official statement, this investment has contributed $13.1 billion to the state’s GDP and supported 24,000 direct jobs across various facilities. An additional 26,000 indirect jobs have been supported through construction, logistics, and supply chain networks. The new $10 billion AWS initiative in Richmond County continues this trend by targeting the next wave of AI and cloud computing infrastructure.
