The foreign ministers of the United States, Australia, India, and Japan convened in Washington, D.C. on July 1, 2025, for the 10th Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. They discussed various initiatives aimed at promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific region. Key areas of focus included maritime security, economic prosperity, critical technology advancements, and humanitarian efforts.

A significant outcome from the meeting was the announcement of the Quad Critical Minerals Initiative. This initiative seeks to enhance economic security by securing and diversifying critical mineral supply chains. The ministers believe this effort will bring economic opportunities to their countries and the wider region.

In maritime security, the Quad is expanding its cooperation to address illegal activities such as piracy and drug trafficking. A new Quad-at-Sea Ship Observer Mission has been launched to improve interoperability among member nations. Additionally, efforts are underway to expand the Indo-Pacific Partnership for Maritime Domain Awareness (IPMDA) across the Indian Ocean.

Economic initiatives include strengthening energy security and promoting resilient supply chains. The upcoming launch of the Quad Ports of the Future Partnership aims to boost port infrastructure development through collaboration with Indo-Pacific partners. There is also a continued commitment to improving cable connectivity resilience through forums and regulatory harmonization.

On technology fronts, there is an emphasis on advancing secure information technology infrastructure and exploring innovations in artificial intelligence and biotechnology. Initiatives like AI-ENGAGE aim to transform agricultural practices in the region.

Humanitarian assistance remains a priority for the Quad. In response to an earthquake in Myanmar earlier this year, over USD$30 million was contributed collectively by member countries for relief efforts. Furthermore, a workshop on pandemic preparedness was held in March 2025 with participation from 15 Indo-Pacific countries.

Overall, these discussions reflect a shared commitment by Quad members towards ensuring regional stability and prosperity.
