The G7 Foreign Ministers, alongside the High Representative of the European Union, have issued a statement concerning recent developments in the Middle East. The ministers from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States met in The Hague on June 25, 2025.
The group expressed support for a ceasefire between Israel and Iran that was announced by U.S. President Trump. They urged all involved parties to avoid actions that could destabilize the region further. Qatar's role in facilitating this ceasefire was acknowledged positively by the ministers.
Solidarity was extended to Qatar and Iraq following strikes by Iran and its proxies against their territories. Efforts toward regional stabilization and de-escalation were welcomed.
A key point reiterated by the ministers is that "the Islamic Republic of Iran can never have nuclear weapons." They urged Iran to halt any unjustified enrichment activities and called for negotiations aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement addressing Iran’s nuclear program.
Iran was also called upon to resume full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), providing necessary information about all nuclear material within its borders. Condemnation was expressed over calls in Iran for actions against IAEA Director General Grossi.
The statement underscored the importance of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty as central to global non-proliferation efforts. It emphasized that Iran must adhere fully to its obligations under this treaty.
Finally, commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East was reaffirmed. The right of Israel to defend itself was emphasized along with continued support for its security.
