Foreign government employees seeking visas to travel to the United States can now follow a streamlined application process at the U.S. Embassy in Niamey. The procedure begins with emailing the confirmation page of the DS-160 form and a diplomatic note to ConsulateNiamey@state.gov at least 24 hours before submitting passports at the consular section.

Applicants should use "VDIP – SURNAME, GIVEN NAME" as the subject line and attach both documents as separate PDFs. Following this, passports and required photos must be submitted in person at the Consular Section on Thursdays between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., excluding Nigerien and U.S. holidays. An appointment is not necessary, and A, G, and C-3 visa applicants do not need to appear personally; passports can be submitted by someone else.

The necessary documents for official or diplomatic travel under visa classifications A-1, A-2, G-1, G-2, G-3, G-4, and C-3 include a valid passport along with previous ones containing valid U.S. visas, a confirmation page of the DS-160 form with a barcode, a recent full-face color photograph on a white background (5 x 5 cm), and a Diplomatic Note from the respective government or agency.

The Diplomatic Note must detail information about the principal applicant including their name, date of birth, position and title, assignment details or visit purpose, duties description, travel dates, anticipated stay duration in the U.S., and information about any accompanying dependents.

For diplomats traveling in nonofficial capacities who wish to apply for B visas without fees charged to holders of diplomatic passports eligible for "diplomatic type" visas, additional documentation is required such as valid passports and printed DS-160 confirmation pages showing barcodes. Applicants aged 14 or older must attend interviews and fingerprinting sessions at the Consular Section on Thursdays within specified hours without needing an appointment.

Diplomatic ID is required for entry into the embassy premises. Due to biometric processing requirements, same-day visa issuance is not possible; processing takes two to three business days or longer if additional processing time is needed. Applicants will receive pick-up tickets indicating when their passport with the visa will be ready for collection.

For further inquiries regarding official or diplomatic visas only, applicants may contact ConsulateNiamey@state.gov using "DIP QST – DIPLOMATIC/OFFICIAL VISAS – FULL NAME" as the subject line along with personal details such as last name, first name, nationality, ministry/agency/organization/entity affiliation, and a brief description of their situation or question.
