Walter Parrs serves as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Mission to the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He brings over two decades of experience in the Foreign Service.
Since 2019, Parrs has been part of the State Department’s Bureau of African Affairs. His roles included Public Affairs Officer and Acting Deputy Chief of Mission in Windhoek, Namibia, followed by Deputy Director in the Bureau’s Office of Economic and Regional Affairs. In this capacity, he led a team focused on commercial and trade diplomacy.
Parrs' overseas assignments include positions at the U.S. Mission to the EU in Brussels, Embassy Cairo in Egypt, Embassy Muscat in Oman, and Embassy Rangoon in Burma. In Washington D.C., he served as Senior Egypt Desk Officer and worked at the State Department’s Operations Center.
Originally from New York City, Parrs is married with two children.
