Thank you, Madam President. Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo and Director General Rafael Grossi provided a briefing on recent developments in the Middle East.
Israel has initiated unilateral action against Iran. Since its establishment, the Islamic Republic of Iran's regime has called for Israel's eradication, launched attacks on Israeli civilians, and contributed to regional instability.
Currently, Iran is launching missiles at civilian areas across Israel, including Tel Aviv. "As President Trump has repeatedly said, this dangerous regime cannot be allowed to have nuclear weapons."
Israel informed that this action was necessary for self-defense. "Every sovereign nation has the right to defend itself and Israel is no exception." The United States was aware of the strikes but did not participate militarily.
The U.S. prioritizes protecting its citizens and personnel in the region. As Secretary Rubio stated: "Iran should not target U.S. interests or personnel." It was emphasized that no entity should target American citizens or infrastructure.
"The consequences for Iran would be dire," if they were to target American interests. President Trump aims to advance peace while avoiding past mistakes leading to prolonged conflicts.
The U.S. seeks a secure peace and urges an end to violence with Iran making a deal for "no more death, no more destruction." Diplomatic efforts will continue to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons or threatening regional stability.
"Iran’s leadership would be wise to negotiate at this time."
