The U.S. Embassy in Jakarta has announced the arrival of Ambassador Peter M. Haymond, who will serve as Chargé d’Affaires, ad interim. Ambassador Haymond arrived in Jakarta on June 15 to take up his duties leading the U.S. Mission to Indonesia.
“It is an honor to return to Southeast Asia and serve as Chargé d’Affaires in Indonesia, an important partner of the United States,” stated Ambassador Haymond. “I look forward to deepening our friendship and engagement with Indonesia, expanding areas of collaboration under our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and promoting stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.”
Ambassador Haymond is a career member of the U.S. Foreign Service. He previously served as U.S. Ambassador to Laos from 2020 to 2023 and has held significant positions in China, Thailand, and Washington, D.C. He is proficient in several languages including Lao, Thai, Mandarin Chinese, and some French. His academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brigham Young University and Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy as well as doctoral degrees from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.
In his new role, Ambassador Haymond will lead efforts to strengthen collaboration with Indonesia across various shared priorities. He looks forward to engaging with Indonesian leaders, civil society, and the broader public.
