The U.S. Embassy in Niamey hosted Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) of State for African Affairs, Will Stevens, for a working visit to Niger from May 28 to May 30. During his stay, Stevens engaged in high-level discussions with members of the Nigerien government to reinforce the significance of the partnership between the United States and Niger. The talks covered various areas of mutual interest, including security, democratic governance, education, and economic development.
A significant part of DAS Stevens' visit was his stop at the American Corner Niamey. There, he signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) ensuring its continued operations. The American Corner serves as an educational and cultural exchange hub that provides young Nigeriens with access to English language resources and information about study opportunities in the United States.
“The American Corner Niamey reflects our shared values and our investment in the future of Niger’s youth,” DAS Stevens stated during the MOU signing ceremony. “It symbolizes the strength of our partnership and our joint commitment to education and opportunity.”
In addition to these engagements, DAS Stevens met with U.S. Embassy staff in Niamey to express gratitude for their dedication and service. He highlighted their crucial role in advancing U.S. interests while supporting a beneficial bilateral relationship aimed at fostering Nigerien development and stability.
The U.S. Embassy anticipates ongoing collaboration with its partners in Niger to promote peace, prosperity, and people-to-people connections.
