Dorothy Camille Shea, Ambassador | U.S. Mission to the United Nations

Thank you, Mister President. And thank you, Coordinator Kaag and Dr. Sidhwa, for your briefings.

Condolences are extended for the tragic murders of Israeli Embassy officials Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, an American citizen, at a Jewish community event last week in Washington. "Yaron and Sarah were murdered for no other reason than the assailant wanted to kill Jews," it was stated. This incident is described as horrific and shameful, highlighting the need to combat rising antisemitism globally.

It was noted that Yaron's final social media post addressed antisemitism at the UN, condemning Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher for spreading what were called antisemitic lies. When addressing this Council on May 13, Fletcher used language invoking "genocide" against Israel and made claims about imminent deaths in Gaza that were labeled falsehoods.

The irony of Yaron and Sarah's murder while attending an event discussing aid to Gaza was pointed out. The United States is reportedly working tirelessly to free hostages and end a war started by Hamas. Some Member States' unwillingness to condemn Hamas is criticized as endangering hostages and prolonging Gaza's control under Hamas.

Efforts continue from the United States to bring about a diplomatic agreement freeing hostages held by Hamas for 600 days. The group is accused of suppressing protests against its rule and diverting aid meant for civilians.

"The United States fully stands behind Israel and its right to defend itself." It is argued that defeating Hamas is necessary for peace in Gaza. Secretary Rubio's words were cited: "if an ember survives, it will spark again into a fire."

Pressure on Hamas to disarm and leave Gaza is urged to free Palestinians from its rule. Immediate release of hostages by Hamas is demanded, including bodies of four murdered Americans: Itay Chen; Gaddi Hagai; Judi Weinstein Haggai; Omer Neutra.

Support for negotiators' work by this Council is emphasized. The U.S supports getting assistance to civilians in Gaza without benefiting Hamas through preexisting mechanisms until the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation becomes operational.

The independent Gaza Humanitarian Foundation aims to deliver aid directly without diversion by terrorist groups. Collaboration between the UN, the foundation, and Israel is encouraged to operationalize this system effectively.

A future for Gaza free of Hamas with opportunities is supported by the United States. President Trump's recent remarks during his visit emphasized new leadership transcending past conflicts towards commerce over chaos in the Middle East.

While forging a new reality alongside Israel and Arab partners remains a goal, standing with Israel against unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state or imposing conditions on Israel continues firmly due to past attacks attributed to Hamas.

Thank you, Mister President.
