The Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF) marks its 10th anniversary since its establishment by the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (TECRO) on June 1, 2015. The framework was designed to provide a platform for Taiwan to contribute to international affairs and share its expertise while enabling like-minded partners to address mutual concerns.
On this milestone, it is noted that Japan, Australia, and Canada joined as full partners in 2019, 2021, and 2024 respectively. This reflects the growing recognition of the framework's value in fostering collaboration on global challenges.
Since its inception, more than 87 workshops have been organized under the GCTF, involving over 10,000 government officials and experts from 133 countries. In 2021, a franchise model was introduced to extend the initiative's reach further. Consequently, 24 events have been hosted across 17 countries worldwide.
Despite constraints on Taiwan’s international participation, the GCTF continues to serve as a crucial platform for sharing Taiwan’s expertise and building new partnerships to tackle common challenges.
Looking ahead to the next decade, there are plans to enhance global recognition of the GCTF as a premier platform for multilateral collaboration with Taiwan. Efforts will be made to strengthen engagement with an expanding network of partners and participants. Additionally, there will be exploration of new opportunities for deeper engagements through longer-term programs and exchanges. The establishment of additional formal cooperation mechanisms is also anticipated to support enhanced partner coordination and long-term growth of the platform.
The statement concludes with a reaffirmation of commitment to this vital platform. There is an anticipation of maintaining and expanding this partnership for global benefit towards a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable future.
