The U.S. Embassy has donated emergency equipment to Fiji's National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO) to enhance the country's response capabilities to natural disasters. This gesture signifies a shared commitment between the United States and Fiji towards safety and security in the Pacific Island region.

During a handover ceremony in Suva, U.S. Ambassador Marie C. Damour highlighted the importance of partnerships with local agencies that are crucial during disaster situations. "When a cyclone or flood hits, every second counts. We are proud to support the people of Fiji by helping ensure the right tools are in place to respond quickly to disasters and save lives. This is what true partnership looks like – working together before, during, and after disasters to keep people safe," stated Ambassador Damour.

The equipment provided will assist the NDRMO team in maintaining organization and connectivity during emergencies such as cyclones and floods, facilitating quicker and more effective responses when urgent assistance is required.

This donation forms part of ongoing U.S. support for disaster preparedness in Fiji, which has previously included pre-positioning emergency supplies and enhancing early warning systems throughout the country.

The United States continues its commitment to collaborate closely with the Government of Fiji and local organizations to bolster disaster response capabilities, contributing to a secure and stable Pacific region.
