Jonathan Peccia, Deputy Chief of Mission | U.S. Mission to Yemen

The U.S. Mission to Yemen has announced the opening of applications for the 2026 Fulbright Foreign Student Program. This program, part of the U.S. government's flagship international educational and cultural exchange initiative, aims to foster connections across a complex global landscape.

The Fulbright Program operates in partnership with 160 countries worldwide, offering opportunities for students, scholars, teachers, artists, and professionals to study, teach, and conduct research. Participants gain valuable experiences that contribute to mutual understanding and address critical international issues. As part of this network, Fulbrighters enhance their education and careers while contributing to communities both abroad and at home.

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program is designed for graduate students, young professionals, and artists from other countries who wish to study or conduct research in the United States for a year or more at American universities or institutions. The program also provides participants with an opportunity to experience life in the U.S. while sharing their own culture with Americans.

Funding provided by the program covers tuition fees, a monthly stipend for living expenses, and a limited health benefits plan. Selection is based on an open competition that considers leadership potential, academic excellence, and adaptability to life in the United States.

Eligibility criteria include Yemeni citizenship with passport eligibility from Yemen; applicants must reside in Yemen throughout all stages of the application process. Additionally, candidates should have two years of professional work experience and hold a U.S.-equivalent bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. A strong academic background is required with preference given to those with minimal prior experience in the U.S.

Applicants must be proficient in English or able to attend a Long-Term English (LTE) program before starting their academic studies. Most fields of study are open for application except clinical programs like medicine and nursing; however non-clinical fields such as public health are allowed.
