Raymond Greene, Director of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), addressed the Greater Dallas Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce (GDTCC) on May 15, 2025. In his remarks, Greene highlighted the robust economic ties between the United States and Taiwan, emphasizing their mutual benefits.
Greene noted that "U.S.-Taiwan economic ties have never been closer," with Taiwan being a significant trading partner for the United States. He pointed out that Taiwan ranks as the seventh-largest trading partner for the U.S., surpassing countries like the UK and France. Greene emphasized that this relationship is crucial during a period of economic transformation.
The AIT director expressed enthusiasm about deepening industrial cooperation between the two nations. He remarked on Taiwanese companies' shifting focus from China to the United States due to changes in China's investment environment. Greene described this shift as a "historic opportunity" for collaboration, especially as the U.S. undergoes reindustrialization.
Greene mentioned specific examples of cooperation, such as TSMC's investment in Arizona and Nvidia's plan to invest $100 billion in Texas for AI supercomputers. He highlighted partnerships with Taiwanese firms Wistron and Foxconn as part of these initiatives.
He also attended his first SelectUSA Investment Summit earlier in the week, where he observed strong representation from Taiwan. The summit aimed to attract investments into key sectors across various U.S. states.
Regarding cross-Strait relations, Greene stressed maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait as critical for global economic well-being. He reiterated U.S. opposition to unilateral changes by force or coercion and affirmed support for Taiwan's security capabilities.
Greene concluded by expressing pride in the partnership between Taiwan and the United States and thanked GDTCC President Chung for hosting AIT at the event.
