The Government of Ecuador has implemented measures to address ongoing outbreaks of pertussis (whooping cough) and yellow fever across the nation. U.S. citizens in Ecuador are advised to adhere to public health guidance issued in response to these outbreaks.

For pertussis, as of May 5, 2025, it is mandatory for all children and adults to wear masks at school for a period of 60 days due to the increasing number of cases. U.S. citizens should comply with instructions from their child's school and the Ministry of Education.

Regarding yellow fever, starting May 12, 2025, travelers entering Ecuador from Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil must present a valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate. This requirement affects U.S. citizens who have spent more than ten days in those countries before entering Ecuador and travelers who are residents or nationals of those countries regardless of their stay duration. The vaccine needs to be administered at least ten days before arrival in Ecuador. A single dose is effective for life, and previously issued certificates will be accepted. Exemptions apply to travelers aged 60 years and older or under one year old.

U.S. citizens are encouraged to take necessary precautions and seek assistance if needed.
