U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) and the Guatemalan Ministry of Defense are set to co-host the multinational exercise CENTAM GUARDIAN 2025 from May 12-23 in various locations across Guatemala. This event will include military and security forces from Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Honduras, and the United States.
The exercise aims to reinforce regional stability, peace, and prosperity while advancing the White House’s “America First” Foreign Policy. It supports SOUTHCOM's strategic objectives by enhancing partnerships and increasing the region's ability to counter transnational threats.
"Cartels and transnational criminal organizations’ illicit activities continue to destabilize communities, posing a threat in the region. These groups and malign state actors exert influence that threatens security, erodes democracies and challenges sovereignty," stated SOUTHCOM Commander Navy Adm. Alvin Holsey.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration: "We must work together, train together and strengthen readiness together to collectively face these threats. Exercises like CENTAM GUARDIAN strengthen our partnerships and enhance our persistent efforts to combat regional threats."
The focus of CENTAM GUARDIAN 2025 is on developing agile forces capable of addressing dynamic security challenges such as transnational threats, natural disasters, and humanitarian crises. The participating forces will improve their interoperability for effective responses to complex situations.
Residents in Guatemala might notice an increased presence of security personnel along with military helicopters and aircraft for transporting personnel and supplies. These movements could begin before the official start date as equipment is positioned.
