The U.S. Embassy in Suva, Fiji, is hosting American social entrepreneur Rahama Wright for a weeklong speaker series titled “Prosperity through Community.” Wright, the founder and CEO of Shea Yeleen, is recognized for her efforts to empower women and strengthen rural economies through sustainable business practices.

Wright's journey began as a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa, where she observed the difficulties faced by rural women in accessing global markets. Her company, Shea Yeleen, now sells products online and in high-end retailers across the United States, creating economic opportunities for women in Ghana, Mali, and Burkina Faso. Wright emphasizes the importance of ensuring that profits benefit local communities—a principle that aligns with Fiji's own economic growth strategies.

“I believe that transforming lives and empowering people includes sharing knowledge and access to information so they can make the best decisions for themselves,” said Wright. She highlighted the significance of skills-sharing and global connectivity.

In Fiji, Wright is collaborating with organizations such as the Duavata Collective, South Pacific Business Development (SPBD), University of the South Pacific (USP), Fiji Agromarketing, and Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation (FCEF). Together they will conduct workshops, meetings, and a public lecture aimed at helping Fiji’s small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) expand beyond local markets.

This initiative reflects the United States' dedication to supporting economic development in Fiji. By linking local entrepreneurs with international expertise and networks, the U.S. Embassy seeks to assist Fijian businesses in building equitable practices and forging global partnerships.
