Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a meeting with Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dr. Fuad Hussein in Washington, D.C., on April 25. The discussions centered around the significance of Iraqi sovereignty for maintaining regional security and stability.
According to Spokesperson Tammy Bruce, "Secretary Rubio and DPM/FM Hussein discussed the importance of Iraqi sovereignty for regional security and stability." Secretary Rubio expressed appreciation for Iraq's efforts in promoting regional de-escalation and fostering constructive dialogue.
The talks also explored avenues to enhance economic cooperation between the United States and Iraq. Both parties considered ways to boost trade and investment opportunities. "Secretary Rubio commended Iraq for hosting the first-ever U.S. Department of Commerce-designated trade mission in Baghdad earlier this month," said Bruce, noting that it resulted in agreements worth billions of dollars with U.S. companies.
