A demonstration is taking place in Santo Domingo along Avenida 27 de Febrero, impacting traffic from the intersection with Maximo Gomez to Avenida Delgado and Avenida Mexico. Although the demonstration is expected to be peaceful, it is reportedly causing roadblocks in the area.

U.S. citizens are advised to avoid the vicinity of rallies and large gatherings, as these have the potential to escalate unexpectedly. The U.S. Embassy Santo Domingo emphasizes the importance of exercising caution near demonstrations and following local regulations.

U.S. citizens in the area are encouraged to carry proper identification, such as a U.S. passport, and remain informed by monitoring local media. "We advise U.S. citizens to avoid areas around rallies and demonstrations whenever possible and exercise caution when in the vicinity of any large gatherings as even peaceful demonstrations have the potential to turn violent without any warning," advises the Embassy.

For assistance, the U.S. Embassy Santo Domingo can be reached for emergencies at 809-567-7775, or for non-emergency inquiries at SDOAmericans@state.gov. Citizens can also connect through the U.S. Embassy Website or follow them on Twitter and Facebook for updates.

The State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs can be contacted at 1-888-407-4747 toll-free from the United States and Canada, or at 1-202-501-4444 from other countries for more information. U.S. citizens are encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive security updates and to visit Ready.Gov for emergency preparedness information.

The U.S. Embassy reminds citizens to plan alternative routes to avoid delays and remain informed during their stay in the Dominican Republic.
