This eight-week, graduate-level program provides English-teaching professionals with the opportunity to engage in innovative, online university-level courses and professional development activities with a focus on English language teaching.
Participants in the OPEN Program will connect with U.S. English-language teaching experts, gaining insights from them while building a network of international colleagues. To qualify, applicants must be highly motivated teachers, teacher trainers, or ministry officials who reside in Yemen. They should not hold dual citizenship in the United States. A strong commitment to professional development and a willingness to share acquired knowledge are expected.
Candidates need to be capable of performing academic work at a U.S. university level (CEFR approximately B2) and must have at least 8-10 hours per week available for coursework. Reliable internet access for 4-5 times per week is required, along with an understanding of English technical terms and basic technology skills. Applicants must also demonstrate proficiency in typing English to participate in online discussions and meet assignment deadlines.

The program features a TESOL Methodology course delivered by the University of Maryland Baltimore County. This course will cover current methodologies for teaching English learners across various age groups and learning environments. Participants will explore strategies for teaching English to speakers of other languages and best practices for teaching listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, including grammar and vocabulary. The course content takes into account the role of modern technologies in teaching English as an international language.
