Thank you, Mr. President. And thank you Assistant Secretary-General Khiari and Under Secretary-General Lacroix for your briefings.

At a recent United Nations Security Council briefing, the United States emphasized the importance of restoring stability in Syria, acknowledging its significance for global security. During the meeting, notable comments were made regarding Syria's role in the Middle East.

"President Trump met with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu earlier this week, and they had a constructive discussion on the importance of regional peace, security, and stability," it was noted in the briefing. The U.S. stands with Israel in opposing any misuse of Syrian territories for acts that disrupt stability.

Concerns regarding ISIS, al-Qa’ida, Hizballah, and Iran-backed terrorists in Syria were highlighted, considering them threats to Israel and the broader region. Recent attacks in western Syria were specifically referred to as atrocities involving both Syrian and foreign elements. "In this context, Israel has an inherent right of self-defense, including against terrorist groups operating close to its border," was another key statement made during the meeting.

The Syrian government's recent communication to the council, expressing a commitment to prevent Syria from becoming a hub for terrorism and conflict, was welcomed. "This is a positive message of intent by the interim authorities," it was stated.

The U.S. has been clear about its stance since December, indicating that outcomes should be prioritized over rhetoric in Syria. "We continue to call on the interim authorities to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms for all, protect minorities, and advance accountability for brutal crimes, including the recent atrocities in western Syria," was emphasized in the briefing.

The meeting also noted that Israel and Türkiye have expressed no intent for conflict over Syria. The council is called upon to strengthen its resolve against terrorism and challenge Iran and others to cease support for destabilizing elements.

The briefing concluded with a call to action for addressing regional threats, reaffirming commitment to security and stability in the region.
