The U.S. Department of State has announced the appointment of Ms. Antoinette Hurtado as the new U.S. Consul General to Bermuda. Ms. Hurtado, a career Foreign Service Officer, brings over 20 years of experience in various overseas and domestic roles.

Her international assignments have included positions such as Political and Consular Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Canberra, Australia; Consular Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Special Assistant to the Director of Communications and Public Diplomacy at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan; and Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy to the Holy See in Rome, Italy.

In Washington, DC, Ms. Hurtado has contributed by teaching public diplomacy and communications at the State Department’s training center and leading digital public engagement campaigns targeting youth networks across Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. She also spent a year working in the private sector as a Lawrence Eagleburger Fellow for an exchange program.

Further roles included serving in the Bureau of Intelligence and Research watch office and arranging travel logistics for the Secretary of State as an advance officer. Before her Bermuda assignment, she was Diplomat in Residence for the Southwest region, focusing on recruitment for State Department careers and programs.

“I am honored and excited to serve as the next U.S. Consul General to Bermuda," stated Ms. Hurtado. "I extend my sincere gratitude to Mr. Vanja Vukota for his leadership in this role until my appointment was confirmed."

Ms. Hurtado is originally from Southern California and holds degrees from Georgetown University and Harvard University. She is proficient in Spanish, Portuguese (Brazilian), and Italian languages. Her arrival in Bermuda is scheduled for March 27.
