AIT Director Raymond Greene recently addressed the American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan at the 2025 Hsieh Nian Fan Banquet. In his speech, Greene emphasized the strength and mutual benefits of the U.S.-Taiwan partnership.

Greene acknowledged AmCham's role in fostering U.S.-Taiwan relations, particularly noting its contribution to the passage of the Taiwan Relations Act and the establishment of AIT. "It is not an exaggeration to say that we could not have reached this landmark without AmCham’s long-standing efforts," he stated.

Highlighting economic ties, Greene noted that Taiwan is a significant trading partner for the United States, surpassing even larger countries like India. He mentioned Taiwan's critical role in sectors such as semiconductors, citing TSMC's $100 billion investment in the U.S., which he attributed to President Trump's leadership. "This deal will only further deepen the positive sum partnership between our two semiconductor industries," said Greene.

Greene also spoke about Taiwan companies moving production out of China due to changing conditions and their increasing investments in the United States. "Last year more than 60 percent of Taiwan companies reported that they have already moved out or plan to move production lines out of China," he remarked.

On energy cooperation, Greene highlighted opportunities for collaboration with Alaska on LNG projects. He expressed eagerness for sharing U.S. LNG resources with partners like Taiwan through projects such as Alaska North Slope LNG.

Regarding security, Greene reiterated U.S. opposition to any forced change to Taiwan's status and emphasized strengthening defense capabilities against coercion from China. He welcomed President Lai's decision to increase defense spending beyond 3% of GDP and stressed the importance of investing in asymmetric warfare capabilities.

In conclusion, Greene expressed pride in the commitment between America and Taiwan and gratitude towards leaders like President Lai and Chairman Silver for advancing bilateral relations: "Together, we will make America and Taiwan safer, stronger, and more prosperous."
