The United States has expressed its commitment to ensuring the Peacebuilding Fund operates effectively in preventing conflicts and fostering lasting peace. During a meeting of the Peacebuilding Commission, Ambassador Leendertse convened discussions with key figures, including ambassadors from Mali and Haiti, as well as the Assistant Secretary-General for Peacebuilding Support.

The U.S. is currently reviewing its support for the United Nations to evaluate if the organization's actions align with American interests. This review will influence future decisions regarding funding and involvement.

A notable point raised was about the assessed funding for the Peacebuilding Fund included in the 2025 UN Regular Budget. While this provides a stable baseline of support, it should not be assumed that such funding will automatically continue in subsequent budgets. The emphasis was placed on demonstrating tangible results and cost-effectiveness in using these resources.

Moreover, voluntary contributions are encouraged to remain the primary source of funding for the Peacebuilding Fund. The U.S. also highlighted the importance of enhancing strategies within this year's Peacebuilding Architecture Review to improve prevention and peacebuilding efforts globally.

These initiatives should focus on supporting national strategies aimed at preventing conflict outbreaks, escalation, and recurrence.
