Today in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, under the hospitality of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the United States and Ukraine engaged in discussions aimed at restoring peace for Ukraine. Representatives from both nations acknowledged the courage of the Ukrainian people and agreed to initiate a process towards lasting peace.
The Ukrainian delegation expressed gratitude to President Trump, the U.S. Congress, and American citizens for their support in advancing peace efforts. Ukraine showed willingness to accept a U.S. proposal for an immediate 30-day ceasefire, extendable by mutual agreement and contingent on Russia's acceptance and implementation. The U.S. will inform Russia that their cooperation is crucial for achieving peace.
The United States plans to resume intelligence sharing and security assistance with Ukraine immediately. Humanitarian relief efforts were also discussed as part of the peace process during the ceasefire, including prisoner exchanges, civilian detainee releases, and the return of displaced Ukrainian children.
Both parties agreed to appoint negotiating teams to start talks for a lasting peace that ensures Ukraine's long-term security. The U.S. committed to discussing these proposals with Russian representatives while emphasizing European involvement in the peace process.
Additionally, both presidents agreed on finalizing an agreement for developing Ukraine’s mineral resources to bolster its economy and ensure future prosperity and security.
