Diplomatic and official visas, including A, G, and NATO categories, are issued to diplomats and government officials traveling to the United States for official purposes. The visa classification depends on the travel purpose as per U.S. immigration law requirements.

Applicants must submit a printed DS-160 visa application form confirmation sheet available at https://ceac.state.gov/GenNIV/Default.aspx. A recent photograph taken within six months that meets specific specifications is required, along with a valid passport that will remain at the consulate until the application process concludes.

A diplomatic note from the Guatemalan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Embassy, or International Organization requesting the visa is necessary. This note should include details such as the applicant's full name, date of birth, position held, trip reason, trip duration, and information about accompanying family members.

Visa applications are accepted on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m., excluding U.S. and Guatemalan holidays. There is no appointment fee required. The processing time for applications ranges from 5 to 10 business days but may extend in some cases.

The NIV Unit accepts no-fee diplomatic-type B1/B2 visa applications from diplomatic passport holders with certain exceptions. Only those holding a diplomatic passport and qualifying rank can apply for these visas without a fee.

Applicants and their family members must visit the embassy for fingerprinting unless they are children aged 13 or younger. Fingerprints for B1/B2 applications are accepted during specified hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Diplomatic officials applying for regular B1/B2 visas due to medical emergencies should request an expedited appointment as outlined at Emergency Appointment on the embassy's website.
