The governments of the United States, the Arab Contact Group on Syria, Bahrain, France, Germany, Qatar, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and the UN Special Envoy for Syria have issued a joint statement following discussions at the Aqaba Joint Contact Group ministerial meeting on Syria.

The participants expressed their full support for the Syrian people as they face a critical juncture in their history. They emphasized their commitment to principles that prioritize Syrian interests and advocate for a political process led by Syrians. The goal is to establish an inclusive government through transparent means as outlined in United Nations Security Council resolution 2254. Additionally, they underscored their backing for the UN Special Envoy's mandate and urged an increased UN presence in Syria.

The group highlighted respect for human rights, including those of women and minorities. They stressed maintaining state institutions that benefit Syrians and ensuring access to humanitarian aid. There was also emphasis on protecting foreign diplomatic facilities and safely destroying chemical weapons stockpiles. Access to regime prisons was called for to address accountability issues and resolve cases of missing persons.

Participants noted that adherence to these principles would be crucial moving forward. They see this period as an opportunity for Syria to end its isolation with international support during its transition.

Combating terrorism remains a priority; they demand Syrian territory not harbor threats or terrorists. The statement also calls for all parties involved in Syria to cease hostilities while respecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity per UN Charter principles.
