Ambassador Javorčík, Ambassador Mlynár, colleagues from the Fulbright Commission in Slovakia, Fulbright alumni, and distinguished guests gathered to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Fulbright Commission in Slovakia. The event was marked by a speech highlighting the achievements of the program and its impact on strengthening ties between the United States and Slovakia.

The ambassador reflected on the origins of the Fulbright Program, initiated by Senator William J. Fulbright after World War II with a vision for people-to-people exchanges as an alternative to conflict. "From then, through Slovakia’s decades-long struggle with communist rule, it is astonishing to reflect how much this country has overcome," said the ambassador.

The program's role as a symbol of friendship between the two nations was emphasized. "For the United States and Slovakia, the Fulbright Program is the ultimate symbol of the strength of our friendship, partnership, and allyship," noted the ambassador. The program's funding parity in Slovakia was acknowledged as a significant achievement.

The ambassador praised Slovak government officials for their support and mentioned that this year saw the largest cohort of grantees ever. "Thanks to your increasing contribution and cooperation, this year we have our largest cohort of grantees ever."

The speech highlighted notable contributions from alumni who include former leaders and advocates against extremism. The ambassador expressed gratitude for their efforts: "Your efforts to grow and strengthen U.S.-Slovak ties through this program are proof that our Fulbrighters change our countries for the better."

Recent activities involving alumni were also mentioned. The ambassador attended a gathering of Slovak Fulbright Alumni Association members who continue to advance shared values through various initiatives.

The future potential of Fulbrighters was addressed optimistically: "When we think about the future of this program, opportunities are limitless: the next cohort could include a future head of state, a Nobel Prize winner."

Despite challenges like war and human conflict nearby, particularly Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which poses security threats in Slovakia, there was an emphasis on international solidarity. The ambassador stated that continued investment in exchanges is essential: "We must reinvest in our people-to-people exchanges and continue working together for a better, safer world."

In conclusion, gratitude was extended towards all participants involved in making these exchanges possible over three decades. There was hope expressed for continued collaboration towards mutual understanding for another thirty years.
