The United States has expressed agreement with the European Commission regarding the proposed reforms to Slovakia's special prosecutor’s office. The U.S. concurs that the broad scope of these amendments necessitates a comprehensive and sound analysis.
In a statement, the U.S. endorsed the European Commission's advice against advancing these amendments or using a fast-track procedure without adequate consultation. This consultation should involve stakeholders at both national and European levels, as well as the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe.
The United States reiterated its commitment to supporting rule of law initiatives and promoting transparency in governance within Slovakia. It emphasized readiness to assist both the European Commission and Slovakia in strengthening these fundamental values for all citizens' benefit.
