Susan Tuller, Deputy Chief of Mission | U.S. Embassy in Democratic Republic of the Congo

The U.S. Embassy in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), is further reducing its staff due to the current security situation. The embassy has advised U.S. citizens in the DRC to leave immediately using commercial transportation options.

In light of these developments, the embassy will not conduct visa interviews or offer routine services for U.S. citizens. It is recommended that individuals ensure their travel documents are up-to-date and pack essential items in easily carried bags. While border crossings remain open, many flights are available from N’Djili Airport in Kinshasa.

For emergency assistance, U.S. citizens can contact the Consular Section at the provided phone numbers.

The embassy advises reviewing personal security plans and ensuring adequate supplies of food and water should staying home become necessary. Essential items such as clothing, medications, and travel documents should be packed in a carryable bag. Citizens are encouraged to have an emergency action plan that does not depend on U.S. government aid and to utilize commercial transport if they wish to leave the area.

Additional precautions include avoiding crowds and demonstrations, being aware of surroundings, monitoring local media for updates, and maintaining a low profile.

Assistance can be sought through various channels:

- U.S. Embassy Kinshasa: 310 Avenue des Aviateurs, Kinshasa/Gombe; +243 81-556-0151/0152 or +243-972-616-193 (after hours and weekends).

- A list of local resources for emergencies is available on the embassy's website.

- Contact via email at ACSKinshasa@state.gov.
